It has been a crazy winter. Like most couples find, our schedules are packed which means our times to relax are limited- and sometimes are relaxing times are not during the same time. I am always able to relax on Wednesday evenings and Sundays. Unfortunately, Sundays are a busy day for Andy as well as Wednesdays. So- when Andy suggested that we go to State Team Wrestling n Madison I wasn't sure. I recognized that we needed to spend time together as a family, but I also recognized that driving about two hours each way, and entertaining a 3 year old at a wrestling meet would not be how I would choose to spend my Saturday!
Thankfully, we found a hotel with a pool and with breakfast, for under $60/tax! We left after school on Friday, found a place to eat dinner in Madison, and then checked into our hotel. We immediately put on our swimsuits and went to the pool area. We were a bit nervous of how she would respond to a pool. Sadly, we have really spoiled her with waterpark experiences. Thankfully, she was very happy, never asked about a slide or why it went right to 3 feet deep. We had fun swimming as a family and playing the various "games" that she created. At about 8:20 she asked us to go back to our room. She insisted that we pop some popcorn. She slept well. We enjoyed the breakfast, went swimming again, and then checked out a mall. We did not bring a stroller so she had a LOT of walking. At the wrestling meet (which started at 1pm) she fell asleep about fifteen minutes into it. We aren't quite sure how she fell asleep with all the fans screaming around us, but she fell asleep on my lap. I couldn't stand or yell so I had to just wave my arm. Unfortunately our team did not win the first round- the competition was very tough and they tried so hard.
Our family vacation was short. It was probably the most spur of the moment and cheapest one we have done in a long time. What was so wonderful for me was just spending time with my husband and daughter. It was wonderful to see my husband and daughter together. I just felt an abundance of love the entire weekend. I enjoyed the excitement that my daughter felt as she was able to play in the playland at the mall, or go down the big blow up slide at the mall. I enjoyed hearing my husband explain to A. about Mommy carrying Brother in tummy. I enjoyed some uninterrupted family time without too much distractions of facebook or text messages (though there was some of that which is quite fine.) I recognize that the next time we stay in a hotel, we will be packing a stroller, diaper bag, bottles, and ALL that goes with an infant. Our family is transitioning from a family of three to four. We talk about Baby Brother constantly, but honestly we aren't sure of how much things will change. Our son will receive so much love when he is born. Andy and I are getting very excited about holding him in our arms and A. is looking forward to meeting him and giving him hugs and kisses. Our family was a family of 2 for almost 2 years, a family of 3 for 3.5 years, and will soon be a family of four!
The next seven weeks will be pretty exciting! A friend from college just had her baby girl today and she was at 34 weeks. I pray that our son decides to stay in a little longer. We told A. that when the snow melts and after Easter, then its getting closer- but we just don't know when. Its exciting and crazy at the same time! I hope to keep teaching right up until the contractions are close together that I need to go to the hospital that evening or the following day. I also hope to attend A.'s dance recital on Sat April 24. We just never know- one of the few true surprises we have left in life. April 22 seems a long time from now but I know it will go quickly. It doesnt seem that long ago that it was August 17 and I had just discovered my child was the size of a poppyseed!
