so I can "remember when"

As I tell others at work about my adorable daughter and the amazing things she says, I often hear them ask, "Do you journal these things- you will want to remember them someday but may forget if you don't write it down." This is exactly the case with this story. What better place to journal than my blog!

This morning I was ready for school a little early and sitting on the couch checking my email. I heard A. wake and called out to her that I was in the living room. She came in, flashed me a bright smile, and cuddled up to me on the couch. After sitting there for just a bit she said to me, "Mommy, I wan a tell you something- Mommy- you are my bes frien!" Well, of course my heart just melted. She has called me a friend before, but it it always wonderful hearing it again! I lovingly replied, "A., you are one of my best friends, too! I love spending time with you, reading to you, playing with you, talking with you, and cuddling with you." She kind of looked at me strangely and then spoke clearly, yet giggly, "No Mommy, Can I have BREAKFAST?"
You just have to understand that her "breakfast" and "best friend" sure sound a whole lot alike- especially at 6:30am! We both just giggled!

We have been able to spend some quality time together lately. We watched a Disney movie on Sunday night and she just cuddled on my lap most of the time- unless she needed to get up to dance to the songs. Last night she wanted to make my hair pretty. She found my comb and also decided she needed to make it wet. One time she attempted to put just a little water on my head but quite a bit spilled onto my shirt and pants. We just laughed about it and I showed her how to dip the comb. Styling hair was something I did a lot as a kid- I remember doing that on my dad and grandpa.

She also is struggling with opposite of Will. I will say, "Don't forget ____" and She will reply, "I will'nt" One day she did say "won't" without me reminding her and she became SO excited that she said it correctly. I am trying to find the balance of reminding her without being annoying!

Our daughter can also dress herself completely in the mornings. This used to be a huge task (as she would kick or run around hoping to get caught) but now she will run off and surprise us with her dressing. One day she had on two pairs of undies, one day she didnt have any, occasionally her pants are on backwards, but she is doing REALLY well. Socks are still a challenge but she can put on shoes. Once her brother arrives, Daddy will be having to get two children ready in the morning. I am so thankful that A. is growing up and will hopefully be a real help to Dad.

After MONTHS of trying to figure out the best name for our son, we finally have one! With that being said- you will have to wait a few more months before you find out. We like being able to share the news on the day of the birth! Anyway, a church lady asked Andy if we had a name yet. He told her we finally picked one- but that we were choosing to keep it a secret until his birth. A few minutes later she asked if A. knew the name. He said yes. She got a mischevious smile and declared that she would get it out of her. He let her know we really want it to be a secret but she insisted she would find out anyway. Once I heard that, I got to work training A. I explained that it is a secret and that we don't want to tell anyone the name. We did a few practice rounds and now she knows that when someone asks her the name of her brother she responds, "Don't Tell!" I tested this out on our nurse and doctor yesterday and she correctly responded with "Don't Tell." The poor women were trying to figure out what name sounded like DONTELL until I explained our situation. They were extremely proud of our 3.5 year old. Let's hope she can keep it a secret until April 22 or so!

Sorry for no pictures on this post. Our son is getting bigger and bigger every day. He loves ice cream and being spoken to. I wonder if our son will enjoy mathematics (specifically algebra and trigonometry). He is starting to need to roll around and kick because his space is getting limited. It seems SO hard to believe that I just have 8 or so more Mondays of classes before I am the mother of two. (I realize I am already the mother of two- but things change dramatically when there are diapers to change and cries to soothe!)
