16 months!
D. hit the 16 month mark on August 23. Soon I will be posting about big sister starting jr kindergarten (after Labor Day) so I realized I better place the spotlight on our son for a bit!
Our son is always smiling (well- seems like most of the time anyway!)
He loves playing outside, wrestling with his sister, going on bike rides (his seat sits in front of mine), making talking sounds, playing with a football, trying to bat any object that is tossed his way, playing with flyswatters, HIDE-n-SEEK is a favorite as well. Not only does he just cover his eyes and insist that I say, "Hmm, has anyone seen D.?" but often in the middle of a diaper change he will pop up, run undiapered, and hide in our closet giggling and peeking out until I find him! He has also discovered the hose to our vacuum and loves speaking through one side and holding the other end up to his ear. He will occasionally share one side so that we can talk back and forth through the hose.
D. has at least 13 teeth with more probably hiding in there! He is a good sleeper going down around 8 and ready to start the day around 6am (yawn). He loves waffles from the toaster (no syrup- thank goodness!) and seems to be a little too good at trying to do whatever sister is doing. She doesnt always appreciate his "help" and will occasionally come yelling, "D. alert- D. alert" She will also call him by his first, middle, last name if he is really in trouble! :)
At 16 months and 5 days, D. is not communicating with the English language much. He can but rarely says hi. He also uses sign language for more. Beyond that, he is able to understand what we ask of him (throw things away, come, no, put paci in your crib...) and is able to nonverbally communicate his needs. I am hopeful that a large burst of words begin soon but at the same time I will miss his la la lahs and other noises that fill our home.
This fall, D. will be going to daycare in the mornings alone 4 of the 5 days a week. I am hopeful it is not challenging for Andy as D. can usually become quite upset when left at nursery but has never had a problem at daycare.
My little man keeps growing. People who see him usually eventually say something like, "that boy never stops" or "he's always climbing something". We had a wonderful summer. I loved the cuddles and precious time last summer when he was an infant but this summer was just as enjoyable as we could really play and not have to worry about eating every 2 hours! He was a great traveler during our many l0ooooong car rides and plane ride to Texas. I still have to worry constantly about his safety and his desire to play in toilet water. He loves to climb, loves to eat anyhting off the ground, and loves to get ahold of his sister's markers. He is an amazing addition to our family and I simply can't imagine our family without D.
