Family Vacation 2013- King's Pointe

As Andy and I reflected on our family vacation by sitting on the balcony, overlooking the lake, and watching bicycles go by on the bike trail, we agreed that this may have been the best family vacation so far.  We probably spent the least amount of time planning for it. I loved that our vacation was just a few hours drive- no need to worry about airports and delays, or kids who are stuck in the car for too many hours!  This vacation was also super kid- friendly and included getting to see some family.  These are all characteristics leading up to an incredible time together as a family!

This year our family went to King's Pointe Resort in Storm Lake, Iowa.  This resort boasts of an indoor and outdoor water park.  We had stayed there once before in the winter and enjoyed the indoor water park when our daughter was 2 or 3.

We enjoyed an evening with Andy's aunt and uncle.  It was crazy how long since we had seen them!
While on vacation we celebrated A.'s 7th birthday!  Here she is enjoying her birthday sundae!
The weather was consistently warm, but we found the perfect window to take a family bike ride.  We had brought our bikes and rented the trailer (above) for D. to ride in.  The ride along the lake was beautiful and breezy.  There is such joy is spending time together as a family while being on an adventure.  I was glad A. was on the tagalong behind me so she could peddle!
 A. chose to spread her birthday presents out throughout the day.  Here she is opening the present from her brother- a webkinz.
We liked this sandwich shop just across the street from the waterpark.  We were warm and the cold water was perfect!
Here is a pic of my good looking husband.  This guy went at least 15 years of not riding a bike to now riding 15-30 miles a day!  Im impressed by his abilities!
Perhaps the favorite part for our daughter was the lilly pads!  She loved going across them both indoors and outdoors!

No question for D, his favorite part was the waterslides.  AGAIN, AGAIN he would say!  He could go on three total adult slides with an adult (2 raft and 1 body slide)  Above is a pic of my feet with him!  Below is a great pic of the boys!

Here is A. on one of the slides!  She was so brave!
Every (and I mean EVERY) time that D. would go on a slide, he would stand next to the ruler and "check" that he was tall enough.  By the last day I started teasing  and looking sad saying, "sorry, hon, you arent tall enough." and he clearly said, "yes I am!"
Swimming in the pool!  Daddy and D.
Having fun in the water- the pic below is awfully goofy!

Overall, we had a great trip.  My only regret is somehow we never took a picture of all four of us while on vacation.  The kids had a good time: slept well, ate well, played well, and we will look back at this trip with great joy.
