Tonight I had the joy of watching my son try and learn to come down the stairs. He has clearly mastered climb- he can go up our 20+ stairs in 25 seconds. I want him to learn how to come down- so that I will be less worried about his safety. Today I tried to teach him the descent. What was awesome is how he would climb up about 3 steps and then practice coming down- climb up the same bottom three steps. It was as if he understood that he had to conquer the bottom three before he could venture up 20+ and come down 20+. I bet he spent about 6 minutes diligently practicing coming down. I dont think he is very comfortable with it yet though- but he will learn with time. (this seems like a sermon or teaching illustration)
The pediatrician encourages him to try our food. He is NOT picky and wants to try everything that he possibly can. Saturday night we had some corn on the cob. We ate "picnic" style on the living room floor - and D. carried his cob around and enjoyed chowing on it. Earlier that day we stopped at McDonalds to play in PlayLand. He enjoyed the cone of an ice cream cone. He also thought it was fun to climb around (supervised) in the PlayLand. He is such a big boy!
This picture cracks me up! I love the facial expression with his lips in addition to the splattered food. D. is trying to play a more active role in eating and wishes to hold the spoon himself. He grabbed the spoon from me which caused the food to fly on his face. Then I had to grab the cameral!
My girl is SO big she can hold the mixer while its running all by herself! Her recent cute quote was while we were at the mall and we saw pretty dresses. We chose which one we liked the best and then she said very officially and exasperated, "Mom, How could a girl like me NOT like a dress?" I said, "Did you just say that?" and then we laughed together. Since then she has said various phrases that being with, "How could a girl like me..."
During our recent snow day I got out a few "new" toys. I had gotten my old Barbie horse, bed, car, poodle, and bicycle from my parents. I had intended to use them to supplement Christmas but the tree started filling up so I decided to wait. What better day for new goodies than a snow day. She was so excited about the bed and the horse. My daughter is very focused on trying to change my hair color. About a month ago we were at Walgreens and she saw the hair dye. She told me she wanted to buy me some- when I asked which color she said- the light kind- the yellow. The salesclerk heard and she and I shared an amused smile. Then- yesterday A. again let me know that for Christmas she intends to buy me "that stuff" to change my hair color. She wants it lighter- or at least the same color as hers! Today at Target she mentioned to Daddy that she intends to buy me the hair dye. Three times in about two months- we'll see what I get for Christmas!
